Our Story
A cross-border journey from Myanmar's forests to Jaipur's finishing studios — and into the world's most considered interiors.
The Journey
The Treecrafts was founded on a conviction that wild rattan — one of the world's most sustainable natural materials — deserves better than commodity treatment. Every piece we produce begins in the forests of Myanmar, where rattan grows wild beneath canopy cover, harvested by communities who have cultivated and traded this material for generations.
Our Myanmar partners are not factory workers but hereditary artisans. Their weaving techniques, passed through family lineages, produce structural patterns impossible to replicate by machine. Each basket, tray, and frame carries the fingerprint of its maker — tonal gradients, subtle textural shifts, and the quiet confidence of a craft perfected over lifetimes.
The raw woven forms then travel to our studio in Jaipur, Rajasthan, where a second layer of expertise transforms them into products engineered for the demands of contemporary interiors. Here, each piece undergoes structural reinforcement with converted iron bases or seasoned timber cores, hand-sanding to a flawless tactile finish, and the application of non-toxic, water-based protective sealants that ensure hospitality-grade durability without compromising the organic character of the weave.
This dual-origin process — Myanmar's irreplaceable hand skill paired with Jaipur's finishing precision — is what allows us to deliver products that are simultaneously authentic and commercially reliable. No shortcuts. No industrial substitutes. Just material honesty at every stage.
Material Standards
Wild rattan is a renewable climbing palm that grows without plantation intervention. Our sourcing partners practise rotational harvesting, ensuring forest ecosystems remain undisturbed and productive for future generations.
No synthetic resins, no spray-booth lacquers, no chemical bleaching. Our finishing process relies on water-based sealants, manual sanding, and organic protectants — preserving the material's natural character while meeting commercial durability standards.
Every product in our range is specified for high-use commercial environments. Reinforced structures, protective coatings, and rigorous quality checks ensure each piece withstands the demands of daily hospitality operations.
Philosophy
Craft is not decoration. We don't treat handweaving as a surface-level aesthetic choice. The weave is the structure. The material is the design. Every product in our range earns its form through the inherent properties of rattan and the structural intelligence of its maker.
Natural variation is a feature. Tonal gradients, textural shifts, and subtle colour differences across pieces are celebrated as authentic hallmarks of manual craftsmanship — never defects to be concealed. Two trays from the same production run will share proportions and pattern, but each will carry its own character. This is the signature of real material, honestly processed.
Provenance matters. We maintain full transparency over our supply chain — from forest to finished product. Every piece can be traced back to its sourcing region, its artisan community, and its finishing studio. We believe the story behind a product is as important as the product itself.
Partnerships over transactions. We position ourselves not as a mass-commodity supplier, but as a design-conscious collaborator: a partner for architects, interior designers, and procurement teams who refuse to compromise on provenance, materiality, or execution consistency.
Jaipur, Rajasthan
Our Jaipur studio is where raw artisan craft meets commercial precision. Here, a dedicated team of finishing specialists, quality controllers, and logistics coordinators transform handwoven rattan forms into export-ready products that meet the exacting standards of international hospitality and retail buyers.
The studio serves as our design lab, quality checkpoint, and fulfilment centre — a single point of accountability for every product that carries The Treecrafts name. From prototype development to final dispatch, every stage is managed in-house to ensure consistency across production runs.
Visitors and trade partners are welcome by appointment. Come see the process firsthand — from raw rattan to finished product, there's nothing we hide.
Whether you're sourcing for a single project or building a long-term partnership, we'd love to hear from you.
